27th-Dec-2009 07:20 am - Night at the Tank: A Rousing Success!

58780105_medium

FTF Night at the tank was amazing; thanks to all the people who made it out to the game in the (unexpected, pouring) rain.

We'll have a full wrap up tomorrow; I don't want to surmise any thing before I hear back from Plank. Last I saw him, he was heading back to the Firehouse for more shots of Patron. Whatabeast.

If you have any pictures or comments, post them in this thread. I'll put up the video sometime before Monday.

Go Sharks, and thanks for showing up! Here's hoping next year is even bigger!

Here's the Game Day post for discussions regarding tonight's game featuring the San Jose Sharks at HP Pavillion playing the Anaheim Ducks.

Game starts at 7:30pm PST and will be available on television in the SF Bay Area on CSN-CA and CSN-CA (HD), the usual radio stations, or online at SJSharks.com or NHL.com's Game Radio page (audio).

Merry Christmas everyone. The Sharks come off their Christmas break having won three in a row, after a five game winless skid, to face the last opponent they played at home, their intrastate rivals, the Ducks. Appropriate, then, that it's a Boxing Day tilt, since if last week's game was any indications, tempers may flare again tonight.

No word as to whether or not either Shelley or Staubitz have cleared doctors' approval to return to the line-up. Nabokov, unsurprisingly named to the Russian Olympic team yesterday, will likely be in nets; more surprisingly is that offseason pick-up Jed Ortmeyer will start the game again on the second line with Clowe and Pavelski--leaving Setoguchi mired in the bottom two lines, still struggling since his second return from his lower body injury.

It's raining in the Bay Area today, which means the ice is likely going to be sloppy and skating conditions poor. Turnovers will probably be plentiful, and plenty of weird bounces.

Let's go Sharks!

Swedish Newspaper Aftonbladet is reporting that Douglas Murray has made it on to the Sewdish Olympic Team ahead of the official announcement.

Source: Aftonbladet.se

Translated quotes from Douglas Murray:

-That would be amazing and a big honour. Let's hope you're right about the selection.

- Personally, I think I deserve a place on the roster. Nonetheless, we have a lot of worthy defencemen so the competition is tough.

- My style of play is not very Swedish. But a lot of people think I only play tough and that frustrates me (he's commenting on the reporter talking about his hit on Russias Alexei Morozov). I do play around 20 minutes a night on one of the top teams in the NHL.

The article also says that Johan Franzen didn't make the cut. So he must be very injured.

Sweden over and out.

Day 25 → Your day, in great detail

Um. Okay. I woke up around 8. Gave Ben his shot. Went on the computer for a little while until my mom told me everyone was up and we were gonna open presents. Opened presents (see last post). Helped make and ate belgian waffles. Yum! Played one of my sister's new Wii games where you knock blocks over. Picked up my nana in Nashua. Ate ham, mashed potatoes, and crescent rolls. Ate cupcakes and sugar cookies. Wandered around taking a billion photos of cats. Chilled on the computer and watched Elf. Went to bed.
Thrilling!

Hope everyone enjoyed their stockings filled with coal yesterday. My barbeque will be running for months.

I'm still not sold on how the Sharks have played in the month of December, with the wins against Dallas and Chicago due in large part to the play of Evgeni Nabokov. Timely goals are a big plus obviously, but the team won't find a lot of long term success if they continue to get outshot at even strength to the tune of 39-8. Those numbers don't even seem real.

The plan is to take a much more in-depth look at these trends later on in the week, but for now let's enjoy the holiday spirits (both literally and figuratively), have a blast at FTF Night At The Tank (Firehouse #1 on San Pedro before the game-- we'll leave for HP Pavilion around 6:45), and root against those villainous Anaheim Ducks (who are on a relative roll in their last seven considering the trouble they've had accumulating standings points this year).

Hope everyone had a great time with their families the last few days.

Prediction: Sharks win 5-2. Goals by Malhotra, Heatley, Blake, and McGinn (x2).

Go Sharks.

Just finished reading "The Game" by Ken Dryden.

If you haven't read it, all my hockey friends, definitely run to the nearest book store and do so. It's a fantastic book, and a great insight ;D

Seriously run don't walk.
